Inday weakens as it nears par exit; pag-asa urges public to stay alert

Effects of Typhoon Inday continues to weaken today, July 10, as it moves closer the boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), tracking northwest towards the waters of Taiwan, with PAG-ASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) forecasting that the cyclone would exit the country’s monitoring area by Saturday morning.
Despite its weakening, the typhoon continues to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat, bringing widespread rains and strong winds across several parts of the country.
Moderate to heavy rainfall remains likey over most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Residents living in low-lying, flood-prone, and landslide-prone communities have been advised to remain vigilant as prolonged rainfall may trigger flash floods and landslides.
Although Inday is moving farther away from the country’s mainland, PAG-ASA said strong gale-force gusts may still be experienced for most parts of the country.
Areas exposed to prevailing winds, especially coastal and upland or mountainous communities, may experience stronger wind conditions. A gale warning remains in effect over the waters of Northern and Eastern Luzon due to rough to very rough sea conditions. Fisherfolk and operators of small sea vessels have been advised to stay beyond affected waters.
Several local government units have also prompted the suspension of classes as precautionary measures against flooding and hazardous weather conditions, and local disaster risk reduction and management offices continue to monitor possible risks within local areas while urging residents to follow official advisories and evacuation orders when necessary.
While a direct landfall is no longer expected of the cyclone, authorities have warned that Inday’s circulation and the enhanced habagat will continue to pose risks even after the cyclone exits Philippine waters.
The state weather bureau reiterated its call for the public to remain alert, take appropriate precautions, and to monitor official weather bulletins to be updated of current events.
